DESIREE RIOS

Desiree Rios earned her BFA in Documentary Photography from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She was a finalist for photo documentary from Duke University and has received NEA/Arizona commission on the Arts grants. She is a fifth-generation-Arizona born Chicana, with Yaqui roots. She worked as a staff photographer for Tucson Weekly, between 1994 and 2001. A series on the process of historical tortilla making by one of Tucson’s most revered Tortilleras, was later featured in an article titled “Bread of Life: A portrait of traditional tortilla making,” published in Tucson Guide Quarterly.


Other publications include: America West Magazine, Latina Style magazine, New Village Magazine and Hemispheres. Special collections include: University of Arizona Library and Center for Creative Photography.
