About The NEA Big Read

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment. It provides citizens with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book, or the work of one poet, within their communities. For the first time ever, the nationwide Big Read initiative, a project of the National Endowment for the Arts, is being held in Tucson. Kore Press is one of 76 organizations across the country to receive the highly competitive grant to host a Big Read event this year. The Big Read, which seeks to revitalize the role of literature in American culture, began in 2006 with ten cities. Since then, the NEA has awarded 950 grants to communities in all 50 states; but this is the first time the Big Read has been held in Tucson.

"Kore Press seeks to ignite the city and inspire citizens to come together with a love of reading, discussion and original art."

Big Read Tucson (as Kore Press is calling its project) is comprised of more than 25 innovative community programs. It is the award-winning programming of Kore Press that has put Tucson on the Big Read map, casting Arizona in a brighter light for the rest of the country. In the wake of January 8th and the recent controversial legislation that has inspired boycotts of the state,

Kore Press seeks to ignite the city and inspire citizens to come together with a love of reading, discussion and original art.
