This gorgeous gallery was the perfect place for us to gather together, fundraise for Miles and Tucson High libraries, and share our love of Emily Dickinson! An estimated 100+ guests attended the celebration.
Tucson High freshmen Samantha Neville and Alma Smith read wonderful translations of Emily Dickinson's work. Featured poems included "Hope is a Thing with Feathers," "She dealt her pretty words like Blades," "I'm nobody! Who are you?" and "The pearl of the deep sea."
The evening's festivities also included live music by Howe Gelb and the THMS Mariachi. Thank you all so much for your friendship and support! |

Thank you to everyone who attended this wonderful kickoff event. More than 180 beautiful people came together at the Poetry Center on Sept. 22, as Emily Dickinson, illuminated, hovered above the crowd. We think she liked what she saw!
This lecture & reading marked the beginning of 10 weeks of Big Read Tucson events, Sept. 22 - Dec 10. Together with 40 partnering organizations, businesses, artists, scholars, libraries and schools, Kore Press will share Dickinson's work and life's story with the community in exciting and innovative ways.
"Dickinson was both in and of her time (the period of the American Civil War), and far ahead of her time. . . a fiery, lively, intense worker in words. . . and feminist pioneer who created her own identity, one that continues to attract and mystify readers," said Alexander. |
